April 6, 2019
Jackie Nunes
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Jackie took one more step toward her Big Goal, not giving up on a less than ideal day and leaving everything she had on the course. Love her grit and perseverance!
Ed Mugnani
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Ed put up a 70.3 run PR off a bike with an increase of 10W - now that is a strong day!
Mike Bates
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike took nearly 20 minutes off his prior 70.3 run time despite a more challenging bike course (which he also crushed). Really solid day on the course for Mike!
Bud Winn
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Good race from Bud after a tough winter battling some limited time to train issues. Well done and this boost in fitness will help Bud with the rest of his races in 2019.
Julie Dunkle
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Back on top of the podium at Oceanside for Julie. Had some mechanical issues but the run pulled her through this time! Great job gutting it out.
Scott Brooks
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great run from Scott with a 1:31:09 and strong day overall while training through the race for IM Santa Rosa.
Ironman 70.3 Texas

May 4, 2019
Laura Simenson
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
A fabulous day for Laura, right in the midst of IM Boulder training. It's a tough course to hit on minimal rest, but Laura executed her day well and validated that all her IM training has built up a fabulous base of fitness.
Jen Carpio
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Well done by Jen! Great sub 2:00 run on a very tough course!
Ironman 70.3 St. George

May 4, 2019
Mike Cragg
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
A really well executed day for Mike! The plan was to hold back on the bike and put out a solid run, and he did just that. A great redemption day from St G '18!
Ironman 70.3 Virginia
Williamsburg, VA, USA
May 5, 2019
Ellee Diamond
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
A fantastic day for Ellee, especially given that she's been relegated to indoor training all season long! She didn't let the rain on the bike or the heat on the run stop her, and she was just a calf cramp away from hitting the podium.
Spring Sprint San Diego
San Diego, CA, USA
May 5, 2019
Julie Dunkle
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Great day for Julie - taking the win while training through a bib block!
Ironman 70.3 Gulf Coast
Panama City, FL, USA
May 11, 2019
Kris Plant
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Very good race for Kris today. Despite the rough, non-wetsuit swim and warm temps (coming from Toronto where it has been snowing) Kris put together a solid race. She was moving through the field on the bike when she was derailed by a puncture and had to wait for tech support which cost her valuable time. She went for it on the run and ran her way to a 70.3 World Championship slot!
Ironman Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa, CA, USA
May 11, 2019
Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Absolutely brilliant race for Jack. Nailed his targets across the board with pacing, energy management and fueling/hydration. Earned a Kona slot today!
Scott Brooks
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Tough day for Scott but still a PR by 4 minutes from last year. He showed his mental tenacity by pushing through even though it would have been easy to drop out. Onto the next one and a better result!
Brooklyn Half Marathon
Brooklyn, NY, USA
May 18, 2019
Sam Martini
Notes from Coach Mike
Out of 26,000+ runners Sam trained through the Brooklyn 1/2 and ran a respectable 1:30:22. Great job Sam! Keep it going.
Ironman 70.3 Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain, Spain
May 19, 2019
Boris Bourdin
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Very good race overall. Boris set up his race with a controlled swim and was able to effectively manage the effort over the challeging bike course with over 4k ft. of climbing. Road bike set up probably would have been better than his TT bike. He was able to run smooth and controlled off the bike with good fueling & hydration
Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga
Chattanooga, TN, USA
May 19, 2019
Taylor Brinkman
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Taylor Brinkman had a solid race at 70.3 Chattanooga this weekend. We had a lot of things we wanted to work on from 70.3 Texas (only 6 weeks earlier), and not a lot of time to do it. I threw a big workload at Taylor, and never doubted that he would rise to the challenge. He had a 15 watt NP improvement on the bike course, only ran 3 minutes slower on a significantly hillier course (after a significantly hillier bike course), and even though the swim was shortened, we're still going to count it as an overall 70.3 PR. But I'm most proud of the way he stayed committed to the plan, fought through the biggest TSS weeks of his season, and dove head first into his mental goals to come away with a great performance.
Brian Duffy
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great race execution by Brian - solid swim, although shortened and good power throughout the bike. He finished with a strong run and placed well in a stacked field! Congrats Brian!
Tammy Powell
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Strong day of racing for Tammy - great swim, strong bike and run. In the middle of an IM training block Tammy raced well on tired legs. Great racing Tammy!

June 2019
Ironman 70.3 Connecticut
Quassy, CT, USA
June 1, 2019
Tasi Karabinis
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Great race. Stayed focused and built the effort as the race progressed. Chased down friendly rival. Still working on trusting the legs to set those speed goals! Great work!
Reyn Cabinte
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Wow, what a day for Reyn! He's worked hard this season to improve his bike, and man did it show. It's a hilly, tough bike course and despite that he hit the same split as his 70.3 from last year, and then ran nearly the same split ON A BROKEN TOE! Just amazing.
Ellee Diamond
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Awesome day for Ellee! Just 4 weeks after IM 70.3 Virginia and she still managed to drop a ton off time relative to St George last year (a pretty comparable race). She even managed to run strong despite limited run training due to a calf/Achilles strain at 70.3VA. Way to go Ellee!
Jason Faulconer
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
This was Jason's first triathlon in a few years, and he put in a solid effort to give us an idea of where we have to build for Ironman Mont Tremblant in a few months. This guy is not afraid of some hard work so I know the improvements we make in June and July will be epic.
Stephanie Ernst
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Solid 1st race of the season for Steph! her goal was 5:25 and she eclipsed that with a 5:22 - great job Steph!

June 1, 2019
Alex Dreu
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
Super solid day! In the middle of Challenge Roth training and managing a foot injury this is super solid! well done trusting the process and putting together a great race.
Emerson Sharpe
Notes from Coach George Epley
The heat played a significant role in Emersons run times. During the bike, he consumed over 150oz of fluid, but never felt the need to expel urine. We made efforts to acclimate to the expected heat, but the cool Denver temps did not provide any benefit to our goals.
Julie Dunkle
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
A really tough day for Julie at IM Honu 70.3. A solid swim and a great bike put her 1st in the AG off the bike, but the heat on the run was tough and Julie ended up in 10th. She's still working through some nutrition planning in the heat. Great effort on finishing and she'll be back on track for the next one.
Independence Oly
Quakertown, PA, USA
June 2, 2019
Mike Schindler
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
This was Mike's first race back after a bad wreck last year, and it was great to have him back in action! He had a really smart, well paced bike (hello, power meter!), and gave it his all on the run. A few things to tweak leading into 70.3 Atlantic City but overall a great day!
Leon's Triathlon
Hammond, IN, USA

June 2, 2019
Mike Bates
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
What a day! Mike did great on a very hilly, foggy, and wet bike course - one of those days when you're really happy to get that over with! - and then went onto a hilly run course where he beat his open 10k time ... from last weekend. Awesome job and a great sign of more to come this season.
Herbalife24 Triathlon LA
LA, CA, United States
June 2, 2019
Casey Fleming
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Casey has been (reluctantly) trusting our shorter duration, higher intensity training plan this year and she seems to set PR's at almost every race. At this race, she broke the 2:30 barrier for an Oly and ran a 41:16 10k! I can't wait to see what's next for Casey!
Kristen Wueste
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Great race overall. Set up her day with strong swim/bike combo and pushed through for the win!
Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Very solid race coming off a two week break post IM Santa Rosa. First week back to training and executed well. Energy levels great throughout the race.
Bud Winn
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Good race for Bud coming off vacation and getting back into the race scene - he broke 2:30 which was solid based on current fitness. This was a great tuneup with the Sprint Tri season about to start. Great job Bud!

Ironman 70.3 Eagleman

June 9, 2019
Natalie Marovek
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great race for Natalie. She's in the middle of IM training for IM Lake Placid and took an easy week to taper for IM Eagleman 70.3 - what a great day! Congrats!
Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon
San Francisco, CA, United States
June 9, 2019
Laura Marcoux
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Karen Rice
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
This race is impossible to compare to any other, in terms of distances or PR's, but the goal for Escape from Alcatraz is to push yourself out of your comfort zone and to have as much fun as possible, and Wild Rice was successful! She worked really hard on her swimming skills leading up to this race to be able to survive the cold ocean swim and held a pretty good line all the way to shore.
Ironman Boulder
Boulder, CO, USA
June 9, 2019
Sarah Peltier
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
great swim and solid bike but the run was a struggle from mile 14 on but Sarah took tt mile by mile and got to the finish line! Sometimes quitting seems like the best option but she persevered for another Ironman finish
Beata Pabian
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Beata wanted to shave an hour off of her IMB'19 time, and she did exactly that! Another year stronger, another year wiser (thank you, power meter), and nearly 40 degrees cooler, plus a healthy dose of grit and determination propelled her to the finish 61 minutes faster than last year. How great to achieve that goal!
Carla Laukka
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Fantastic race. Rock solid mental strength and focus
Kelly Malone
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Kelly Malone pushed through to his 15th Ironman finish this past weekend at IM Boulder. Great to have him repping D3 on the course with our other teammates. He set up his day with one of his best IM swims and a well-paced/managed bike which had him positioned for a top 20 AG spot. Unfortunately some nausea crept in early in the run and he was never able to get past it Some great takeaways for his next IM in Mont Tremblant.
Lawrence Gray
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
Today was about finishing!! super solid race... faded a bit on the run but gutted it out for a solid finish
Laura Simenson
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Laura came into the season asking me to dial up her training a solid notch. I was happy to comply, and even happier with the results she achieved off the training! She shaved almost 45 minutes off her combined swim and bike times and came in with a solid IM PR. Laura is also the happiest person you'll ever see on an IM course. All smiles and fun!
Jen Carpio
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Jen had a great day racing in Boulder - being from sea-level she had no issue and kicked butt on this course! Great job Jen! Great execution and what a day!
Theo Gunkler
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Theo's goal was to break 14 hours and he smashed that today! What a great day for him - great execution and mental toughness. Congrats Theo!
Ironman 70.3 Les Sables
Vendée , France, France
June 16, 2019
Boris Bourdin
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Overall a good race for Boris. He set up his day with a PB swim at this distance. Unfortunately a flat on the bike zapped a little bit of his race mojo, but he was able to get back into things with a solid bike split and hitting his targets. Run went well through 15k before the pace slowed over final 5k.
Guelph Lake 1
Guelph, ON, Canada
June 16, 2019
Steve Sgro
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Steve made a big jump in his run speed this off-season, and he moved to a power meter on the bike, so we were really excited to see what this race would show! After a full-contact swim, Steve put up some MASSIVE numbers on the bike which would normally lead to collapse in T2. But instead, he held on to take 90 seconds off his prior year sprint 5k time. Fabulous work, and a great indication of what's to come!
Kevin Hester
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great race for Kev! Strong swim in tough conditions - great bike split and a heck of a run - 8:15 pace! Woot! The future is bright for this guy!
Tri Latta Sprint Tri

June 22, 2019
Chloe Nabity
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Super fun race format for Chloe with the enduro run/swim/bike/run/swim/bike/run. Lots of transitions to keep things interesting for sure! She raced hard, had a blast and even made a new friend on the course!
Loveland Lake to Lake
Loveland, CO, United States
June 22, 2019
Michelle Friedrich
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Michelle attempted to stay warm on a cold and rainy day by sticking with the Sprint distance and yet she still came off the bike numb from the waist down. Even with the shivering, she stuck with it on the run and logged another post-injury finish on the way to her comeback 70.3 race later this year.
Dore Berens
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Dore has been battling an injury for a while, and the cold weather provided an additional challenge, but she still shows up on race day and gets it done.
Karen Rice
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Seth Kurtz
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Some great takeaways from today's race for Seth, especially regarding fueling in cooler weather. He set up his race with the fastest swim and bike splits in a competitive field and led through the 5k mark of the run. Unfortunately, the last 5k was a real struggle as his blood sugar levels and core temp dropped. He basically stumbled across the finish line. Paramedics were able to get his blood sugar levels and core temp back to normal ranges post race. Overall a good race and great to get back in the mix since it had been since April he has raced.
Laura Simenson
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
What a day for Laura! Only two weeks after IM Boulder, and we weren't sure if her legs were going to have the pop needed for a good race at the Oly distance. Plus the weather was pretty horrid - cold and rainy, which is never ideal. But Laura went for it from the start and was able to put out a fantastic race! A solid swim and bike were capped with a 5k almost 3 min faster than last year's. Plus Laura hit one of her big goals: PODIUM, BABY!!!
Toughman Utah

June 22, 2019
Casey Fleming
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Casey really stepped up and gutted it out at this race. The water temp was 50 degrees and the air was 33 degrees when the athletes were getting out of the water. The goal going into this race was to build toughness and I'm so proud of Casey for keeping her head in the game. The conditions didn't allow for as much speed as she is used to, but the strength and commitment she built in this race will go a long way towards some fast results later this season.
Boulder Sunrise
Boulder, CO, United States
June 23, 2019
Danielle Lowry
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Danielle's strategy was to hit it hard on the swim and bike, and that's exactly what she did. She missed the overall podium by only 15 seconds, but she had the fastest female swim on the day, executed her strategy perfectly, and left it all out there.

Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Bud had a few changes on the bike, some decent training the past few weeks and viola (!) a great race on good fitness. Way to throw down a 19:51 run Bud! Woot. 4th place and just out of the top 3. Well done!
Scott Brooks
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great race from Scott - who's to say IM athletes can't race well at short course racing! Scott polished off the race with s 19:17 5k. Way to go Scott!

Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Great race for Jack and propelled by a strong swim/bike/run combo today. Really pleased with the swim and run splits in particular. Coming off IM Santa Rosa his Achilles had been a bit bothersome so the run speed work has been limited, but he was able to push the pace and put down one of his best 10k run splits.

Duane Rorie
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
A great first tri of the season for Duane! He accomplished three of his four goals: had fun, gave 100%, and didn't die. ;) We've still got two races left to hit that fourth goal, and this race gave him some good ideas about how to get there. A cooler day wouldn't hurt either.
Ironman 70.3 Coeur d'Alene
Coeur d'Alene, ID, USA
June 30, 2019
Fernando Palafox
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Fernando had a perfectly executed race. Fernando's Swim was smooth and efficient, coming out of the water 35th in his age group. He followed up that with a solid bike hitting his targeted power perfectly. He was 29th in his age group. Finally, he delivered on an outstanding run. With this being his first 70.3 we focused on a controlled start and a strong finish. Fernando delivered. He negatively split his race and finished faster than planned. A testament to his training and mental toughness. Fernando is going to go back to the CU tri team for the fall but if he decides to focus on 70.3 in the future with some focus on his bike he could take considerable time off his time. He has lots of potential.
Cindy Newton
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
Solid swim, fantastic bike-- spot on nutrition and pacing and run was great through mile 10- the heat + ironman training took its toll but Cindy stayed strong- did not give up or walk! Onto Ironman Mt Tremblant
Jen Gahringer
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
Fantastic race for Jen- no taper, no pressure and just for fun! Solid swim, killer bike and strong run- Nutrition was just where it needed to be and onto IM Canada!
Cindy Banchy
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
Despite a bike mechanical Cindy had a solid day- the goal of sub 7 was close but over 10 min out with the bike, got her. Hot day but she just kept going! no walking and a solid finish. Tough racing with only a few rides outside due to a LONG MN winter. Great attitude!
Kalee Tyson

Danielle Lowry
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
This was Danielle‘s 2nd race of the weekend, as she completed a pass of the Triple Bypass yesterday. Our goal was to focus on effort in each moment, instead of overall fatigue, and she challenged herself to fight all the way to the finish, just off the podium in 4th.

Casey pulled off a 1st place finish in her AG at the end of a tough build heading into 70.3 Canada.

We considered doing the sprint instead, but Renee put her doubts aside and went out and smashed a PR, which landed her 4th in her AG! What a great day for Steve! We knew he was racing on a hot and humid (read: non-PR) day so the goals were a bit different: fueling and pacing, and in particular using perceived effort more than data to guide the bike and run. Steve NAILED his execution and had a really strong run - his fastest 10k time on record! Can't wait to see what he does when the temps return to normal.

Mike Cragg
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike headed over to IM Hamburg - which is apparently a fabulous venue, in case anyone was curious - and while he didn't have the day he wanted, he did show incredible resilience on the run and stuck it out to the finish. A finish is always something to celebrate!

Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Great day and tough mental attitude. Worked on a few key things such as cadence and pacing. Learned a few things about nutrition and what her future plan is. Managed Life stresses to show up and do the best she could do! Excellent work
Natalie Marovek
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great race execution by Natalie! A solid way to finish her first IM with a 4:19 marathon!
Tammy Powell
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Tough day for Tammy with a flat that cost her 90 minutes and some nutritional issues on the run. She persevered though and made it to the finish line!

Casey Fleming
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Casey had a solid race at 70.3 Canada on Sunday, finishing just off the podium in 6th. She hit some higher watts on the bike than she's ever been able to in a 70.3, but ever since we flipped the switch to Ironman training, she's got long distance on the brain and stayed in zone 2 on the run. I'm still impressed with her effort and I can't wait to see what she does at IMCHOO!

Laura Marcoux
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
I'm really proud of myself for showing up to the start line ready to give whatever I had in me, after dealing with food poisoning for the few days leading up to the race. I hadn't kept anything in my body, including all fluids and my pre-race dinner, so I wasn't sure what I would be able to do once the gun went off. I had my slowest Ironman swim of all time, then as I started to keep some calories in my body on the bike, I felt better and better, and surprisingly got off the bike ready to race the marathon. I didn't know where I was in the field, but I knew that I had enough strength to fight for every last second and I was determined to get the most out of myself, especially after thinking I may not even be able to finish.

top of the podium in her AG! solid race on tired legs in the middle of a long training weekend
Mike Bates
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike had a solid sprint right in the middle of 70.3 training. Never fun to start the swim with 5-7 foot waves, but Mike didn't let that phase him. He powered through those, lay down some solid watts on the bike, and the pulled off a beautifully executed progressive 5k to cap off his day. Well done!

Mary Peebles
Notes from Coach Simon Butterworth
Mary Paced the race perfectly except for the swim, which she smoked going 8 min faster than her coaches estimate. Bike and run were both within 2 min of our estimated time.
Michael Misner
Notes from Coach Bill Ledden
David Glugla
Notes from Coach Bill Ledden
David had a great race. He was strong on the swim and was out of the water toward the front of his age group. He was even stronger on his bike with the 13 fastest in his age group. Biking has always been David's strength and today was no exception. David continues to improve on his run but struggled a little in the heat. Overall he had an excellent first complete 70.3 and takes away several things to focus on moving forward next season.
Sergio Melendez
Notes from Coach Bill Ledden
Sergio had an outstanding race. He set his goal to break 5:30 back in February and was tenacious about working toward his goal. He even went so far as to buy an altitude tent to sleep in so the trip to Boulder would not be as big a deal. His swim was good to start off the race. His bike was even better. He had practiced the boulder bike course on Best Bike Split and came prepared to race. He stayed within his target power and executed perfectly. On the run, he started out controlled and followed his race plan. Sergio's paced an even split race and was strong enough to push the last 2 miles to meet his goal. In his own words: " I had my best race ever." Sergio has some big goals for next year that are in reach.
Casey Jones
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Well executed race, WE will still continue to work on more bike efficiency. Very reliable run and stayed strong with really hot temps. A PR day! congrats!
Will Murray
Notes from Coach #D3Specialty Coach
Duane Rorie
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Duane laid down a solid swim and bike, and was holding nice and steady in the blazing sun on the run course until his blood sugar spiked and forced a slow down. Fueling for a 70.3 with diabetes is a tough needle to thread, but he's learning every race.
Erin Sizemore
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Erin has had more to juggle this season with travel and her job, but she leveraged all of her fitness to put out a great effort on the course. A rock solid bike, and a smile on her face throughout the run.
Kara McMachen
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Great Race by Kara! Good execution in hot conditions! Way to stick to the plan and get on the podium in a competitive age group! Well done. Onto 70.3 Worlds in France!
Rami Wilder
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Rami went out and smashed an overall 70.3 PR, improving all across the board. He raced 20 minutes faster than the last time he raced 70.3 Boulder 2 years ago with a 5 minute faster swim, 5 minute faster bike, and 7 minute faster run. (Not sure what he was doing hanging out in transition 2 years ago either.) But most importantly, Rami reached his biggest goal, which was to get uncomfortable and cross the finish line with absolutely nothing left in the tank. Proud coach.
Robert Bossert
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
A very well executed day from start to finish. Balancing a little more on the heart rate due to elevation changes from home, really helped. One of the better half ironmans in terms of pacing/ and execution. Keep up the good work !
Emerson Sharpe
Notes from Coach George Epley
Emerson executed a near perfect race, we lost a few minutes in T1 with some calf cramping after getting out of the water. Otherwise right on target with his training times. To go sub 5 hours we need to lower his swim times he was 64th in his AG in the swim, his long course T-pace id 1:54 and he swim a 1:54 during the race.
Lawrence Gray
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
no stress kind of race and Larry ends up 5th and a spot to the 70.3 World Championships! Congrats

Darci Axmear
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Darci was battling an injury for much of the season, and we limited her running to save her knees for an epic few weeks of hiking in the Rockies, but despite that she had an awesome day at the Camp Courageous Tri. She executed her plan really well - powering hard on the bike and using all her fitness to knock out the run on very limited run training.

Laura Duncan
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Laura had a great day at the Lake Logan despite also having limited run training due to injury *and* despite the fact that I thought she was only doing the AquaBike. When you plan to AquaBike but pack run shoes, a race belt and a hat, you know you're actually running. So proud of her for guiding a fellow swimmer from panic back to swimming, for her effort on the bike, and for crossing the RUN finish line to end her day.

Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Amazing job. I know the bike wasn't quite where you wanted, but you ran a 10K PR off the bike! Overall a great execution start to finish!
Nathan Turner
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Well done race from start to finish. Probably a left a little room on the bike but had a good run. More Olympic distance in your future will lead to faster 70.3s!
Dana Willett
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Solid performance from start to finish. 3 watts from a 2019 personal best! Overall a really solid effort. I know the run might have been a touch off from what you anticipated but I was real happy with your performance and effort! Great work!
Kristen Wueste
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Great result considering she was racing on a borrowed bike with hers being damaged the day prior during air travel. Mentally dealt with the unexpected and pushed through with a strong race across the board. Set up with one of her best open water swims and able to maintain contact with race leaders through most of the bike. Earned her spot at 2020 ITU World Championships!
Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
An infected bug bite in his leg caused a good amount of swelling and inflammation which hampered his efforts a bit, but still able to put himself at the front end of the race while setting the fastest bike split with a blazing 27.4mph average speed. Solid go all things considered.
Sam Martini
Notes from Coach Mike
Sam had a solid day but felt a bit flat and didn't find his groove on the bike or the run until the 2nd half of the race. Overall, not a bad result, being top 25, and Sam knows he's a top 15 guy next year! Let's get after it.
Stace Tucker
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Racing in a tough AG, Stace laid it all out there and came in 69th AG. Stace had some pre-race challenges and he was happy to toe the line and let it rip on race day. He's already looking forward to the next one.

Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Not bad, descent effort on brand new bike.
Kristen Wueste
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Stellar race backing up yesterday's Olympic effort with a top 5 AG finish! Ran very well recording her fastest average pace in a triathlon to date at 6:39/m!
Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Back-to-back 2nd place AG finishes and a 4th place OA on the heels of yesterday's Olympic effort. Had a bit more snap today, but still not able to fire on all cylinders with the infection. Solid weekend of racing with Kona now the focus :)

Ironman Copenhagen
Copenhagen, , Denmark
August 17, 2019
John Herrel
Notes from Coach Bill Ledden
John Herrel raced Ironman Copenhagen yesterday and delivered at every stage. He started the race off with a 3 minute PR on the swim. Given that he had injured his ankle just a few weeks before the race and was unsure how the run would go, he was really focused on making up time on the bike. He really got after it and rode to a 16 minute PR on the bike. With his ankle a question mark he started off the run and was able to push through the discomfort. Even with the ankle he only missed a PR on the run by 6 minutes. With each strong performance, he made his goal of a sub 11 hour Ironman. Great job!!
Heather Caldwell
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Oh my goodness Heather, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! Heather decided to tackle this daunting distance, and did a fabulous job for months and months with balancing her graduate studies, training, and the ongoing battle of Crohn's disease. Leading into race day, her jitters transitioned from nervousness about the distance to concerns about the weather, which was predicted to be cold, windy, and rainy. The weather forecast improved (just a bit), and with a helluva lot of grit and determination, she got it done! Massive CONGRATULATIONS on a huge goal accomplished, Heather!!!

Tasi Karabinis
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Excellent execution of race. Swam biked and ran very very close to his goal times, stuck with the plan for power heart rate and nutrition on the bike. As always the run gets tough but had serious motivation to keep pushing through. Improved by over 20 minutes from last ironman on a much tougher course! Fantastic day! very happy for you, way to go!
Cindy Newton
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
An ideal day for Cindy! Perfect execution of swim bike and run! start to finish- super strong on the back half of the marathon, nutrition spot on and a great day all around.
Kelly Malone
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Solid race for Kelly with a nice improvement from IM Boulder back in June going sub 13 hours. Swim PB by 5'! With some tweaks to his run prep his run split was 50 minutes faster. Nice work Kelly!
Jason Faulconer
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Jason rocked a 40 minute Ironman PR at Ironman Mont Tremblant yesterday! He had a smokin 54 minute swim and went 20 minutes faster than he planned on the bike. He started struggling about halfway through the run, but we talked about how the end of the race would be all mental, and despite the suffering, Jason picked up his pace on each of the time checkpoints during the last 10k. It was pretty freaking exciting watching the tracker and seeing him fight for that finish.
Kalee Tyson
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Great race for Kalee as she put up a 17 minute PR with PBs in all three disciplines! Super happy for her as she stuck to her plan and was able to manage her pacing & fueling throughout the day. She set up her race with a strong swim and was able to complete the final 30 miles of the bike without any power readings when her bike computer stopped working and went by feel. She continued to push through some rough patches on the run en route to a sub 12 hr day in 11:52. Solid day across the board! Proud of her grit that she has displayed in overcoming some ups and downs throughout the season.
Kylee Timso
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Kylee had a fantastic day with a PR swim (5 minutes), a PR run (39 minutes) and a solid bike despite a flat that took a bit to fix. Her paces were consistent throughout the day as she had a plan and nailed it. I'm super happy for Kylee and I know she'll go even faster next time! Congratulations, Kylee!
Laura Inigo
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Laura had a few struggles with an upset stomach on the bike and took a course that was hilly and not her strength and got it done. Super proud of her effort and ability to push through when she didn't have her best day physically, but she definitely had a great day mentally as she showed just how tough she is! Congratulations, Laura!

Michelle Friedrich
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Michelle hit up this sprint right in the middle of 70.3 training - no taper or rest, plus she had to do a brick the day before - and she executed her day perfectly! The goal was to pace the swim and the bike to allow for a steady and consistent run, and she did just that. Great job!
Casey Fleming
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Casey took 1st overall as we're in the middle of building for IM Chattanooga. She has been committing to speed, even in a year where her main focus is on the Ironman distance, and it appears to be paying off!

Don Wilson
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
We've been working hard to dial in Don's bike pacing to allow for a steady and consistent run. That was made quite a bit harder by the hills and wind on this course, but Don executed well and was rewarded with the consistency that we've been looking for!
Ellee Diamond
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
A strong day for Ellee, especially given that this race was designated a "training day" for IM 70.3 AC in just two weeks. She did a great job executing her plan and saving herself for her A race.
Michelle Franks
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
So proud of Michelle and her effort today! It's been a challenging year for her and today was all about racing with freedom, being grateful for the gift of good health and enjoying what this sport allows us to do. Great way to cap an abbreviated season and overcoming so many unexpected "life" happenings.
Renee Borah
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Traverse City was Renee's A race for the season, and she overcame SO much to get across the finish line. We worked through some panic and fear with open water swims, battled some health issues throughout the season, but Renee never faltered with her training. She swam under her goal time of 45 minutes, and was right on target with her bike and run! My favorite thing about coaching Renee is that even when she may doubt herself, she still shows up day after day, gets the work done, and fights for her goals. Congrats on an awesome finish, Renee!
Julie Bedford
Notes from Coach Mike Ricci
Solid race for Julie and she made the podium - good to see the training is going well as she approaches IM Chattanooga in September.

Reyn Cabinte
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Woohoo! A PR day for Reyn! He's worked really hard over the past two years to improve his cycling. This translated to an 80W jump in FTP over 21 months (!!!) and was instrumental in securing significant bike and run 70.3 PRs. That and a willingness to trash his legs the final 5k. 😉 Congrats, Reyn, you worked hard for this and you earned every one of those 19 minutes you shaved off your prior PR!
Karen Rice
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Racing and racing hard after Ironman just a few weeks prior. Karen wanted to test her limits and her legs and fortitude. After a frustrated swim, she smashed the first 2hrs of the bike. Amazingly she had a fantastic run. I say amazingly based on how hard she rode, and the fact she probably still had some ironman legs. Way to go!

Big progress for Joel in only his 2nd olympic distance triathlon! He came away with 2nd in his AG and I'm excited to see even more progress as we build for Waco 70.3 (first 70.3!).
Dore Berens
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Even in a year where training is on the back burner due to some lingering injuries, Dore still pulled out the AG win in the sprint!
Carla Laukka
Notes from Coach Jim Hallberg
Getting some great experience at the Olympic distance. Carla was super speedy, beating some top notch athletes! More of this will be like eating your spinach. Make you super strong! Oh and it Tastes great!
Seth Kurtz
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Solid race for Seth taking the overall win! Set up his race with the fastest swim and 2nd fastest bike splits on the day putting himself in good position at front end of things. Also had the fastest transitions overall, even besting Coach Dave :) Cramping on the run slowed his effort and still need to get some things dialed in for a better run.
Lawrence Gray

Well done Lawrence Gray for jumping in the Boulder Sunset Oly Tri, last minute. 2nd place AG finish and snuck head of #D3Coach Dave Sheanin by 8 seconds. Nice work racing short and fast!

Danielle Lowry
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Danielle finished the ITU WORLD Championship placing 25th in the world, and 10th in the US. After qualifying for worlds (olympic distance) on Ironman training last year, we decided that Danielle might be pretty good at this whole short course thing. This season, I wanted to challenge her to face some fears, with the goal of creating an unbreakable mindset heading into Switzerland. I knew she would rise to the challenge, but I think she exceeded both of our expectations on how willing she was to get uncomfortable, both physically and mentally. If this is only year 3 in this sport, and year 1 started with a tri on a Schwinn Cruiser, I'm excited to see what's next for Danielle!

Great race from Kara! She worked through the hills and then the descent and despite a mechanical. She did a great job toughing it out and finishing strong!
Kris Plant
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Super proud of Kris for this gritty performance! Having broken her 5th metatarsal only two weeks ago while on a trail run, it was quite uncertain whether or not she would even be able to navigate the challenging bike course let alone complete the run. Kris is tough as nails - her tenacity and ability to suffer is an inspiration! She actually bested her run split from a half IM event back in May on a much more challenging course and with a broken foot. Time for a well-deserved recovery week!

Awesome race with a solid swim that left her in 23rd position. Long run to T1 and an efficient transition moved her up to 13th, then to 6th after the bike, and up to 3rd at the finish. Perfect execution of the race plan. Podium!
Jim Murff
Notes from Coach Julie Dunkle
tough day for Jim starting with a hard kick in the head on the swim, but he went on to fight the brutal headwind on the bike and rallied for the run. It was a struggle from mile 1, but he persevered 1 mile at a time to make the finish line on the sand!

Dore finished out her season with a 3rd overall at the Oktoberfest Sprint Tri. It's been a long season of battling injuries and life changes for Dore. It's hard to keep everything in perspective when the previous 2 seasons resulted in Ironman podiums, and this year was a battle just to be able to workout without pain. It goes to show that we can use triathlon to really push ourselves to reach new limits of endurance and speed, and sometimes we need it to just be there for us as a source of fun, escape, and a reason to be around teammates. Although it's been challenging, Dore has learned to roll with the punches this year and has continued to race sprints as an outlet for fun. She starts a new internship today as the off-season starts and continues to make progress as an athlete and person. I'm incredibly proud of the way she handled this year and I know next year she'll be back ready to kick some ass. One of the speeches at the Endurance Coaching Summit last week in Boulder was about coming back from injury, and one of my favorite quotes was: "It's not a comeback. I'm not getting back to anything. I'm carving a new path." So Dore won't just be back next year, she'll be a brand new better version of herself, and everyone better watch out!

Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Great for Kelly to get in a sprint distance race this season. Fun to simply race by feel and get out of his comfort zone. Competed from start to finish and had a couple of sub 8' miles on the run!
Seth Kurtz
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Very solid race from start to finish with fastest swim split and second fastest bike split which put him at the front end of the race right from the gun. Competed with a few of his teammates at the pointy end of things for a team sweep of the podium! (Sko Buffs) Good springboard for next month's Pumpkinman.

Mike Schindler
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike Schindler, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!! 18 months ago, Mike was broken and banged up from a nasty bike crash. He slowly brought himself back, then took on the crazy goal of his first Ironman. Yesterday, Mike swam through lots and lots of jellyfish, biked while battling cramps, and ran while arguing with a very, very cranky stomach. His day may not have unfolded as planned, but being a strong #d3powered athlete, Mike steadily moved himself forward and reached that incredible finish line. Congrats, Mike, you did it!

Casey Fleming
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
Casey came out of the water in 14th in her AG, and immediately fought off 10 girls by the first timing check point 32 miles into the bike. She battled her way to 2nd place and continued to make progress on the leader throughout the entire day, but ran out of room at the end, to finish in 2nd. Casey wanted the win and the Kona spot, and it's a tough pill to swallow when you fight your ass off all day in 95 degree heat, and then your AG only get's one spot. But she came away with a 15 minute PR, was 6th overall amatuer, and got a lot tougher yesterday.

Boris Bourdin
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Having thought he was able to successfully transfer his registration to a later 70.3 in a few weeks, this was a bit of a surprise when he was initially told race week that would not be permissible. Ultimately Boris was able to gain entry into the planned race - so two 70.3s for the price of one :) Given the last minute notification and not having this race within the planning Boris was able to put together a very respectable day. Swim and bike both on target with what we discussed. Run was very steady from start to finish, but just unable to find another gear or two.

Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
It was a HOT day in Augusta, and Rami went into the race ready to embrace the heat and tackle any challenges that came his way. We are still working out some details with hydration and pacing, but the biggest improvement Rami has made this season is not being afraid to push himself to his limits and leave it all out there on race day.

Very good race for Boris on the heels of the previous weekend's 70.3 race. Able to hold a steady effort from start to finish. Had a great run with ability to find some extra gears and accelerate when he wanted. Most importantly, he shared this race experience with his 17 year-old daughter who completed her first triathlon!

Jack Toland
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Jack set up his race with an extremely well-executed swim & bike to plan as he moved through the field. 8th after the swim and up to 4th after the bike. Ran well first few miles but unfortunately things unraveled as he battled sever muscle tightness in his shoulders, back and just below rib cage. He battled every step of the run to will himself to the finish. While not the result we anticipated, super proud of his effort on this day and commitment to the process throughout the year. Well done Jack!

Don Wilson
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Don developed a chest cold leading into race day and this was a big concern. Despite that, he was able to throw down an IM bike PR - super impressive! That chest cold caught up to him on the run, though, and although he wanted to quit given several times, he persevered and got it done. Don brought his characteristic determination to his day, and I'm so proud of him for crossing that finish line!
Mike Cragg
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike was firing on all cylinders leading into race day, and was definitely bummed about the swim cancellation because his swim is the best it has been in years. Mike didn't let that distract him, though, and he ended up taking 7 minutes off his IMLou bike split from 2 years ago! He would've PR'd the run as well but for some GI distress for about 6 miles. Overall a great showing for Mike!

Michelle Friedrich
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Michelle developed a stress reaction about 4 weeks before race day. We switched her runs to ellipticals and pool runs, and crossed our fingers for race day. Doing some math, we realized Michelle still had the chance to turn out a solid day given her strong swim and bike fitness, and her ability to really speed walk that run course. She ended up beating her 2018 races by 10 minutes with FASTER run splits, and was even able to run the second half. So impressed with Michelle's grit and determination!
Ed Mugnani
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Ed put up a *50 minute PR* off his prior 70.3's. Ed's been working hard on swim consistency and bike execution in training, and we knew his fitness in both of those areas had really improved. That set him up to turn out the run we've known for a while that he's capable of. Even accounting for the swim current, Ed hit significant PRs in all three disciplines!

David Hibbs
Notes from Coach Laura Marcoux
The big goal for Hibbs this season was to break 5 hours in a 70.3 and he did that with 24 seconds to spare at 70.3 Arizona this weekend! (Yes- even with those 15 u-turns on the bike course!) He dropped 10 minutes off his time at this race last season, mostly from his improved run split. I knew Hibbs had the fitness to break 5, but it was going to come down to pushing through those mental barriers at the end of the race that tell you it would be sooo much easier to slow down. What a fantastic way to end the season!

Gary Lucchesi
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Strong race for Gary and great way to cap his season. 3rd fastest 70.3 to date with exceptional race-day execution. Despite the technical nature of the 3 loop bike course and things getting crowded as the race unfolded Gary was able to nail his target power with an incredibly consistent effort. As his legs fatigued on back half of the run he dug deep and did a great job of focusing on his cadence instead of the fatigue to will his legs to the line.

Mike Bates
Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Mike was able to nail a bike PR despite a truly crazy bike course (15 U-turns!), and match his prior best run split despite some major wooziness and nausea. A 15-minute 70.3 PR under less than ideal circumstances is pretty amazing!

Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
What a great day for Kelly! We've been working on his training consistency the past month, then focused on specific execution goals for race day, and those two things REALLY made a difference! The heat got to him on the run, but overall he executed like a champ and earned a 70.3 PR. Love what he did on the course, and what it means for his 2020 race plans.

Great race for Fernando with a consistent effort from start to finish on a tough course. He executed his bike to plan hitting his target power which set things up for a strong run - earned an all-time best for the 10k today!

Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Seth had a strong race today holding his position throughout the race. Very solid swim/bike/run combo helped him secure a 2nd place OA for the second year in a row and a clean podium sweep and overall team victory for the Buffs. Power held strong throughout the bike with no degradation.

Joel just came in 4th in his first 70.3! This is Joel's first season as a triathlete and the amount of progress he has made in this short amount of time is incredible. Joel is 100% all in with the training plan, is ready and willing to absorb knowledge like a sponge, and it doesn't hurt that he has a little bit of raw talent in his back pocket as well. With IM Texas on the horizon for next season, we certainly have a lot of work to do, but I'm excited about Joel's future in this sport!

Fantastic race for Boris and 2nd fastest overall time at this distance. Challenging bike course with narrow and rough roads which he handled extremely well while making adjustments on the go to stay safe. As temps rose during the run reaching mid to upper 30s Celsius he was able to dig deep and adjust pacing as needed. Fought back on second half of the run. Overall energy levels were strong throughout the day. Very solid effort on the day!

Notes from Coach Alison Freeman
Duane finished up his 2019 season at 70.3 Los Cabos, which presented a tough very open water swim, a hilly bike, and a hot run - the evil trifecta of triathlon. As always, Duane gave it everything he had on the course, finishing with a stronger run in similar conditions to Boulder 70.3 in August, and rewarding himself with a full plate of tacos. Well earned, Duane. Congrats on a fabulous season!
Kalee Tyson
Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Fantastic effort from Kalee today as she dug deep on the run to secure a slot for 70.3 World Championships! She executed her plan and was able to position herself at the front end of her AG throughout the race. Very respectable result for his first IM. Swim and bike executed to plan and run was on point. Notes from Coach Brad Seng
Solid race for Kris and despite feeling some flat legs on the bike and run she was able to compete from start to finish. She battled through the fatigue and mental hurdles to race at the front end of her AG with a 4th place finish. Kris' mental toughness continues to prove invaluable on race day!
